What is Adopt-A-Family: The Adopt-A-Family program allows for financially challenged families to receive tangible needs at Christmas. Without the benefit of a program like this these families would be looking at a very grim holiday.
Hope Academy has designed a shopping day for their families. Northwooders will select a gender and age of a child and shop from a list of options. A few weeks prior to Christmas all of the gifts are delivered to Hope Academy and the parents go shopping. They pay a nominal fee to purchase an item on display. You can volunteer to be a part of this shopping day by going to Hope Academy on December 14 to wrap presents for parents or providing a treat for the shopping day.
Osseo Senior High adoptee families have given the counselors at OSH permission for you to contact them. You will select an entire family and meet with the parent(s) prior to Christmas Day to deliver the gifts. You will not wrap the presents but you can provide wrapping paper, tape and gift tags if you would like.
How does Northwood Church get families: Adoptees are referred to us by school counselors who are familiar with the family, their circumstances and the student.
What to buy: When you select a family or student ages, genders, sizes etc. are attached along with a “wish list”. This wish list may include toys, clothing or household items. Northwooders are asked to provide two or more new gifts for each member of the household or student including the parent(s) in the case of Osseo Senior High. Children love seeing their mom/dad receive a gift too. Providing Christmas stockings is another way you can make the holiday special for your family.
Get involved: This is a great way for you to invite your family, small group or friends. Many Northwooders find the experience so fulfilling that they participate in the program year after year.
About the families: Dignity is an essential part of each person and at a time when families need assistance it’s critical to help maintain their dignity.
