Environment Doesn’t Dictate Talent!

Jambo from Kenya! On Friday afternoon, we ended the Art Camp in Mathare with a showcase where the kids could show off all that they accomplished. The Video class shared a demo reel which gave examples of the different techniques they learned and then premiered the movie they made, entitled “The Match.” The Music class shared the song they learned to play on the ukelele, “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands.” Then each team shared the original song they wrote and recorded during the week.

The Photography class shared a slideshow of some of the incredible pictures they took throughout the week which showed the different techniques they learned in class. It was such a delight to watch the kids’ faces as they shared their work.

One of the most memorable moments of the show was when Kevin, our emcee declared to the kids, “Environment doesn’t dictate talent!” These kids exceeded any expectations we may have had and proved, without a doubt, the truthfulness of that statement.

We will begin our journey home in just a few short hours. Though we are all excited to see our family and friends back home, it is with sadness that we say goodbye to our friends in Kenya. It is safe to say that each of us on the team will leave a little piece of ourselves behind.
