Faith and Deeds [April 10, 2011]

Martin Luther wrote, “We are saved by faith alone but not a faith that is alone.” What Luther meant is that we are saved for eternity by trusting in Jesus Christ alone for our salvation and there is nothing we can do to merit or earn salvation. Luther correctly adds, however, that true faith in Jesus Christ will always show itself in what we do and the way we live.  It’s like an apple tree.  Just like apples grow on an apple (proving it’s an apple tree!) so good deeds flow from the life of a believer (proving the presence of faith).  What does the fruit of your life show?
