On Saturday, July 17, the Outreach Team, H2O, hosted a booth at the 2011 Maple Grove Days. The mission was simply to engage in our own community with a warm smile and fantastic prizes for visitors to our booth.
Just as the temperature outside was soaring, so was the excitement around the Northwood booth! Along with literature promoting Northwood and our upcoming food packing event with Impact Lives, we had a constant flow of kids young and old stopping by to take their chances at our spinning wheel. Beyond the prizes, though, was an opportunity to share a moment with literally hundreds of people, reconnect with some old friends, and make new friends.
One of the biggest highlights from the event was a very creative fan, made out of a piece of paper highlighting the current message series and contact information for Northwood attached to a popsicle stick. As close as we can determine, over 700 fans were handed out on Saturday. While they served a very practical purpose on a hot July day, it’s even more exciting to consider where those fans may end up and who they may attract to learn more about our church family. One person passing by stopped to tell us, “I’ve seen those yellow fans everywhere throughout the expo, so I wanted to stop by and see where they were coming from.”
A special “thank you” to the volunteers that stopped by throughout the day to help make this a huge success. While we celebrate the success of the event, our prayer is that seeds were planted that day. We look forward to welcoming some new friends into our Northwood community and more importantly, to encourage them in their journey with the Lord.
