Fifty days after Jesus ascended to heaven the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples and other believers in Jerusalem, just like Jesus had promised them. God chose the Jewish feast day of Pentecost as the time to send the Holy Spirit. Pentecost was one of three feast days for Jews and it celebrated “harvest day” and God’s blessings. Was it a coincidence Pentecost was the day God chose to send the Holy Spirit? No, it wasn’t. The Holy Spirit is one of the two greatest blessings God gives believers (the other is forgiveness of our sins). The Holy Spirit is such a wonderful gift from God because the Holy Spirit changes everything, most of all, us. That’s why the God wants us to be filled with the Holy Spirit and keep in step with the Holy Spirit, so God can change us and use us for his purposes.
