Jesus’ baptism was a very important moment in his life. It was the inauguration of his public ministry. It was a moment of affirmation when the Holy Spirit descended on him, anointing him to bring salvation to people. It was a moment when God the Father spoke audibly from heaven, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.” It was a moment when Jesus identified himself with penitent believers. It was an act of obedience to God. Jesus’ baptism speaks loudly to us on many levels and calls us to identify ourselves with him. It calls us to follow Jesus and obey him in a public confession of faith. Jesus was baptized to identify himself with you. Have you ever been baptized to identify yourself with him?
