Just after his baptism Jesus was led by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness where he was tempted by the devil for 40 days. During those 40 days Jesus ate nothing, which left him physically weak and spiritually vulnerable. Jesus’ temptation speaks to us in many ways. It reminds us that Satan’s temptations are real and that he is always trying to get us to live his way or our way rather than God’s way. Jesus’ temptation also reminds us that temptation itself is not a sin, but what we do about it is really important. Jesus points the way to overcoming temptation and we are wise (and holy) if we follow his example.
