One of Jesus’ most misunderstood statements is, “Do not judge.” That’s hard because every day we’re forced to make judgments about people and situations in our jobs and relationships. So, what does Jesus mean when he says, “Do not judge?” Well, Jesus’ words are not a blanket statement against critical thinking – Jesus wants us to be discerning just like he was. Instead, Jesus’ words are a call to be discerning rather than negative in making judgments; to never be hypocritical or condemning toward others but instead build others up and not tear them down. Does that describe you? Are you discerning in your judgments? Do you build others up and not tear them down?
