A nine member search team recently began meeting to locate and recommend a new Children’s Director for hire by Northwood’s Leadership Team. The team, led by Becky Koller, will include Pastor Brian Doten, Leadership Team member Sherwin Vischer and Northwooders Tonia Alexander, Jane Bortnem, Jackie Gilbert, Tracey Hellawell, Dave Lundell and Stacy Moore, is tasked by Northwood’s Leadership Team with advertising the open position, reviewing resumes, screening and researching candidates, conducting a formal interview process and recommending for hire the appropriate person to be Northwood’s next Children’s Director.
The Northwood Children’s Director is responsible for Northwood’s ministry to children birth through grade six and their families. The primary responsibility of the position is to provide strategic vision and leadership for Northwood’s ministry to children. Primary objectives of the position are to evangelize and disciple children and to resource parents in order to assist them in developing healthy Christian families. Specifically, the position includes recruiting and training teachers and volunteers, leading children’s programs (Sunday School, VBS, etc.), selecting age appropriate curriculums, parent education programs and ministering to children and families. The position is 25 hours per week and the person reports to Senior Pastor Brian Doten while working strategically with Youth Pastor Luke Trouten and other staff as appropriate.
Qualifications for the position include baccalaureate and divinity (desirable) degrees and at least three years experience leading children’s ministry. In addition, the person should possess a growing love for Jesus Christ and the church and a passion to see children come to believe in Jesus Christ and become more like him.
