NW Celebrates 5 Years with Luke Trouten

On September 1 Luke Trouten passed the five-year mark as Northwood Youth Pastor. Hired three months after graduating from Oak Hills Christian College in Bemidji with a B.A. in Youth Ministry, Luke is Northwood’s first (and only!) Youth Pastor. In the past five years God has blessed and grown Luke’s ministry with youth, parents and families in greater and greater ways. Today Northwood has one of the strongest and most effective youth ministries in the northwest suburbs and Luke is on of the longest tenured Youth Pastors among Maple Grove churches.
Over the past five years Luke’s leadership of Northwood’s ministry to youth and their families has included:
*Branding the ministry (Northwood Student Life – NSL)
*Recruitment of a gifted, godly and committed team of volunteers
*Establishment of a Wednesday night program
*Summer mission trips to Minneapolis, Red Lake Reservation in northern Minnesota and Chicago
*Three annual seasonal retreats
*Regular youth activities and service opportunities
*Organizing a parent advisory team (“PIT Crew”)
*An NSL webpage and electronic parent update email
*Countless hours hanging out with teenagers and counseling them and their parents.

Beyond youth ministry involvement at Northwood Luke has also been an occasional Worship Service speaker, Northwood webpage developer and manager and key contributor to other Northwood ministries. Commenting on Luke, Pastor Brian Doten said, “Luke has been a gift from God to Northwood Church in so many ways. God has used him to build a terrific youth ministry and Luke has used his skills and spiritual gifts to minister to the larger church family in lots of other ways as well. I encourage every Northwooder to thank God for Luke, thank Luke personally for five years of ministry and to pray God’s favor and blessing for Luke and his wife, Katie. I look forward to the next five years with Luke on our staff!”
