What is One-to-One Discipleship?
One-to-one discipleship is people meeting one-to-one regularly for spiritual and personal growth. The time is spent studying the Bible, in conversation and prayer.
What is the goal of One-to-One Discipleship?
A transformed life that is…
~increasingly God –Centered (Matthew 6:33)
~influenced by God’s Word (the Bible) (John 8:31-32)
~characterized by love for God and people (Mark 12:30-31)
~becoming more like Jesus Christ (2Corinthians 3:18)
~committed to ministry (John 13:12-17)
Why should I be discipled?
To develop a spiritual friendship and be encouraged by another believer.
“As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” ( Proverbs 27:17)
To experience a transformed life and become more like Jesus Christ.
“And we, with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into the likeness with ever increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” ( Corinthians 3:18)
To learn how to develop your relationship with God.
“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.” (Colossians 2:6-7)
To discover God’s dreams and desires for you.
“We proclaim him, admonishing and teaching with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ. To this end I labor, struggling with all energy, which so powerfully works in me.” (Colossians 1:28-29)
Why should I disciple someone else?
Jesus Christ commanded us to make disciples.
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20)
God desires every Christian to be involved in the disciple making process.
“Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.” (1 Peter 4:10)
God uses people to encourage spiritual growth in others.
“He (Apollos) began to speak bolding in he synagogue. When Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they invited him to their home and explained to him the way of God more adequately.” (Acts 18:26)
To pass along the Christian faith to others and be a spiritual reproducer.
“And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others.” (2 Timothy 2:2)
What Others Are Saying
[onethird][pullquoteleft]“What I love about 1:1 discipleship is the foundational content of God’s word and what it means to be a Christian, the ability to ask questions that I may feel uncomfortable to ask in a small group, and the growing personal relationship with God our Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit that has resulted.” – Brenda[/pullquoteleft][/onethird]
[onethird][pullquoteleft]“I was taught to know that God is alive, real, sovereign, loving, and is preparing a place for His believers in heaven. I now realize that I live for His glory instead of mine.” – Pete[/pullquoteleft][/onethird]
[onethirdlast][pullquoteleft]“One to One discipleship has meant to me the forming of a life long bond of friendship centered on God and glorifying Him. It involves praying, learning, teaching, and sharing God’s biblical truths as well as one’s deepest thoughts and the relevance that our Savior has in my life. It is practical application for everyday living and it is fulfilling in so many ways. I am grateful.” – Mike [/pullquoteleft][/onethirdlast]
