The Garden of Gethsemane: Thursday Night [March 11, 2012]

[powerpress]

Description:   Sometime after 11 p.m. Thursday night Jesus and his disciples concluded their Passover celebration by singing a hymn and walking a short distance to the Garden of Gethsemane.  The Garden was a favorite place for Jesus to pray.  As the group entered Gethsemane Jesus asked James, John and Peter to follow him deeper into the Garden and pray for him.  Then, Jesus went a little farther by himself and poured his soul out to God.  What did Jesus pray for?  The Gospel writers tell us Jesus prayed, “Father, everything is possible for you;  please take this cup of suffering away from me.  Yet I want your will be done, not mine.”  What does this moment in Jesus’ life teach us about him?  About God?  About prayer?  About us?
