The Parable of the Pharisee and Tax Collector [Oct 2, 2011]

[powerpress]

Description: One of the most consistent and strongest messages in the Bible is, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”  It’s found in several places in both Old and New Testaments.  It’s also demonstrated in several stories of people in the Bible.  And, Jesus thought humility so important that he told a parable about it – in the presence of people “who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everybody else.” (Talk about an “in your face” kind of moment! Wow!)  What should we do about what Jesus said and the Bible teaches?  Well, first, be humble – recognize our own need for God.  Second, be humble towards others.  As the Bible says, “Don’t think more highly of yourself than you ought.”  Third, choose to serve others in specific ways.  If you do these things, Jesus says you will bring honor to God who will one day reward and honor you.
