Jambo from cool (70’s) Kenya!
We arrived safely in Nairobi, Kenya Friday evening. Saturday we joined the Somali Fellowship for worship, prayer and Bible study. It was wonderful to worship with our Somali brothers and sisters and the Nairobi Refugee Ministry Team. We’re looking forward to spending more time with them during the retreat which begins on Thursday.
Sunday we worshiped with Julia Clark at Mavuno Church in Nairobi. Sarah H. was especially thrilled to join in the singing of one of her favourite songs, “One Thing Remains”. The service celebrating the church’s 7th birthday was energetic, inspiring and encouraging.
Today Sarah M. visited her Compassion child, Wambui, and her family while Sarah H. spent the day with Julia in downtown Nairobi. Tomorrow we will begin preparations for the Family Retreat and possibly attend a Rwandan refugee women’s Bible study with Julia.
Impressions of Nairobi . . .
“Hey! This is Sarah H. and it has been a blessing to be here in Nairobi for a few days. The people are very warm and friendly. Some of the major differences that I have seen is the way people drive, the road conditions and how many people there are. Some similarities that I have noticed is the Java House, which would be comparable to Caribou or Starbucks and the diverse group of people. My favorite moment so far has been meeting the kids from Somali Fellowship. There is this precious girl named Joy and after Bible study we spent time racing, doing the splits (or at least trying…) and going through the complicated process of turning her hair blonde – this is done by taking my fallen hair and placing it on her head. My time so far has been mostly in the city of Nairobi, which is more similar to America than I had imagined, but I am REALLY looking forward to meeting the Somalis and helping with the Family Retreat.”
Please be praying for:
continued safety as we travel each day in difficult driving conditions,
good preparation for the retreat,
that we will serve well with open hearts.
that we would see God move during the retreat.
