But God (11/10/19)
Ephesians 2:1-7, Brian Doten:
“But God…” are two of the most beautiful words in the Bible and they are found in Ephesians 2:4. Ephesians 2:1-3 clearly explains how we all are “dead in our sins” – which means we are controlled by our sinful desires, the world around us and ultimately, the devil himself. We are, Paul says, “without God and without hope.” Then, Paul interjects those two beautiful words in Ephesians 2:4, “But God … is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead in our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead.” Paul’s point is that only God can save us from our sin and ourselves and the devil – and God did!! John Newton was right, God’s grace is amazing!
