Disappointment and Change

As Barnabas, Paul and John Mark continued on in their “First Missionary Journey” they faced what every work of God does: disappointment, fruit, challenge and change. What were these? Well, the disappointment was that John Mark “left them and returned to Jerusalem.” The fruit was “the people begged them to speak about these things next week.” The challenge was the opposition Paul and Barnabas experienced from jealous Jews, and the change was that Paul now became the leader of the missionary band and journey. All these developments point out that when God is at work, some things don’t go as planned or wanted while other things result in good fruit. That hasn’t changed since Paul and Barnabas preached in Antioch of Pisidia in Acts 13. It’s true in Maple Grove and Northwood Church and every church in our community.
