Everybody loves a great rescue story … Apollo 13 back in 1970 … “Sully” and Flight 1549 on the Hudson River … Captain Phillips and the Somali Pirates … Chilean minors trapped underground in 2010 … the young Thai soccer team this past July. We all love the heroics behind an amazing rescue story. The truth is the greatest rescue story of all time occurs when God rescues us from “the kingdom of darkness” and transfers us “into the kingdom of his dear Son,” Jesus Christ. Paul says our rescue occurred when Jesus “purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.” When was the last time you sat quietly before God and pondered how God rescued you, thanked him and what being rescued means for your present and future? Perhaps it’s time to do that.
