Tale of Two Cities

The story of two Greek cities, Thessalonica and Berea, show us what we experience today – some people say “yes” to Jesus and some people say “no” to Jesus. So, what determined the different responses to Jesus in Thessalonica and Berea? It’s not exactly clear but Luke seems to point to how people responded to the Scriptures in the two cities. Those who said “yes” to Jesus did so because they “searched the Scriptures day after day to see if Paul and Silas were teaching the truth.” Those who said “no” to Jesus refused to accept the witness of the Scriptures about Jesus. All this tells us the importance of using Scripture when we tell people about Jesus, and the importance of having a teachable, open mind and soft heart toward God. Which leads us to two important principles when telling others about Jesus: 1) Importance of knowing the Bible 2) Pray for soft hearts and open minds in those we tell about Jesus. The Bible and open minds and soft hearts will lead people to believe in Jesus.
