Paul and Silas’ (“several”) days in Philippi were certainly eventful and not boring, to say the least. While in Philippi they birthed a church, cast out a demon from a slave girl, were accused of crimes against Rome, were beaten with rods (we call in “caning”), got thrown in jail (where they sang hymns!), were rescued by God through an earthquake, rescued the jailer from suicide, baptized the jailer and his household and received an apology from city officials for being beaten and imprisoned illegally. In all this, we read three amazing stories of people in Philippi who became believers that remind us God pursues everyone and is very creative in bringing people to faith in Jesus. Today we praise God for the salvation he gives us and celebrate how he pursues us and uses all kinds of different ways to bring us to faith in Jesus!
