The Believer’s Runway (3/24/2019)

Colossians 3:5-14, Brian Doten:

Colossians 3 is all about the need for believers to take off (“get rid of,” “put to death”) clothes that don’t fit Jesus followers and to put on clothes (“clothe yourselves with”) that do fit believers.  Paul gives a specific list of clothes that don’t fit believers – sexual immorality, impurity, lust, greed, anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, dirty language and lies.  Paul says these sins (clothes) are “wicked” and “make God angry.”  Instead, Paul writes, Christians are to put on clothes that fit people who follow Jesus – “tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, forgiveness, and most of all, love.”  The great thing about these clothes is they never go out of style, they always fit, and they look terrific!  So, friend, let’s put on the clothes of God’s people.  Let’s get rid of dirty, sinful clothes and put on righteous, beautiful clothes.  Let’s dress up!
